Kenya Gabriela Oliveira Matos de Lima, 2 years old, died after suffering about 59 bodily injuries, in Campo Grande, in the west zone of Rio. According to the police, in addition to being tortured, the child showed signs of sexual abuse. The baby’s father and stepmother were arrested red-handed.
According to the Civil Police, Kenya fell ill and was sent to the Hans Family Clinic, in the same neighborhood, but arrived at the scene without life. During the service, the medical team realized that the victim had been violently assaulted.
According to police chief Márcia Helena Julião, the father, Vinícius Lima, and the stepmother, Patricia Ribeiro, said in a statement that the baby had fallen to the ground several times and was injured because she was a ‘taken’ child.
The girl’s biological mother would have left the child under the father’s custody since she was 3 months old, after the accused refused to pay alimony. In addition, witnesses said that at family gatherings the child appeared with bruises all over her body.
The father and stepmother were arrested in flagrante delicto by the 43rd DP (Guaratiba) and will respond for the crime of homicide. The stepmother was sent to the 36th DP (Santa Cruz), which has female prisons.
