Omalur: Construction of an electric cemetery at a cost of one crore, 34 lakhs and 70 thousand rupees has been started and 70 percent has been completed under the Kalainar Urban Development Project at Sudugat under Omalur Town Panchayat.

In this case, there are 374 mud tombs and 154 concrete memorial platforms in Chudugat. They will be removed and a park, traffic route, public seating area and a toilet room will be constructed.

In the first phase, a consultation meeting of all government officials including revenue, police and fire department was held yesterday at the community hall in Omalur regarding the removal of memorial platforms. Town Panchayat president Selvarani presided.

It was decided that action can be taken regarding the removal of the memorial platforms after holding a meeting to ask the opinions of the people on behalf of all the parties. Selvarani said that the invitation for the meeting will be issued soon. Executive Officer Kathirvelu, Vice President Pushpa, Councilors participated.
