Primoz Roglic takes victory in the mountainous stage of the Adriatic round. Kamna handed over the lead to the Slovenian from Jumbo Visma.

Today we live the fifth stage of this edition of the Tirreno Adriatico with a stage between Morro D’Oro and Sassotetto, a stage shorter than the previous ones of 165 km with a single port profile basically with the final climb to Sassotetto, practically 12 km with a 7, 3 %.

However, the bad weather conditions, with a very high wind, caused this climb to be reduced, which was finally cut by 2 km, ending in Fonte Landina.

Today the breakaway was led by Stybar (Jayco), Antony Perez (Cofidis), Fetter (Eolo), Gugliemi (Arkea), Stork (DSM), Ballerini (Soudal) and Simmons (Trek) however the American soon fell off the hook of this adventure. As the final stretch approached, Ineos pressed from behind and closed the distance and the breakaway cyclists stayed until the rest of the breakaway was caught 30 km from the finish line.

On the way to the ascent to Sassotetto the wind was very protagonist and made the runners suffer who, if they were not cut off, suffered to stay on the bike. Movistar took the reins of the race on the climb and set an important pace on the climb that made a selection in the main group but the wind affected the pace a lot and slowed down in the group.

With 6 km to go, UAE put on another gear and violently accelerated the race causing the calm in the group to disappear and runners began to stay. Damiano Caruso launched a strategic attack for Landa but given the group’s lack of reaction it helped him to leave ahead for several kilometres.

Finally, an ax blow from Mas turned the tables and made him reach the top easily until he reached Damiano in the last kilometer but dragged the rest of the runners. Nobody gave continuity to the Spanish and cut cyclists, including Roglic, managed to enter to dispute the sprint. After an invaluable job by Kelderman who launched Primoz, the Slovenian finished off everyone at the finish line.
