Sony Xperia 1 V: leaked information about image sensors

by time news

Every spring, Sony releases its new high-end smartphone, Xperia 1. The fifth iteration is expected in 2023. The first details about the shooting elements have been leaked on social networks. The main unit will still integrate three 12-megapixel sensors on the back and a fourth on the front, but the size of the sensors will change.

According to a new leak from Weibo reported by the Japanese site SumahoDigest, Sony’s next Xperia 1 V will retain an image configuration quite similar to its predecessor: 3 sensors on the back and one on the front. Each of them will have a definition of 12 megapixels.

Image sensors in the Xperia 1 V will be larger

On the other hand, the size of the sensors will evolve. Because larger sensors absorb more light at the same focal aperture. And whoever says more light, obviously says more detail, more contrast, more color. Thus, the main sensor will increase from 1 / 1.7 inch to 1 / 1.4 inch (the lower the number below, the larger the sensor). This represents a 21% increase in surface area. This means an increase in pixel size by 21%.

The telephoto sensor will increase from 1/3.5 inch to 1/2.9 inch. And the selfie sensor will move from 1/2.9 inch to 1/2.4 inch. Either way, the increase will be just as significant. On the other hand, the ultra wide angle sensor will remain at 1/2.5 inch. But, he’s definitely the one who needs to at least increase that size.

While this information is interesting, it is incomplete. The amount of light a sensor receives depends of course on its size, but also on the aperture of the lens. The leak did not reveal the new data. Also, the number of lenses and the focal length are important. In short, we still have to wait to learn a lot about this model.
