Going for a run or a walk in the morning is refreshing for the mind and body, isn’t it? But what happens if you have to face any kind of violence even at that time? A few months ago, a woman doctor was attacked while taking a morning walk in the capital city. However, a study says that this is not something that happens only in any particular city or country. The study says that all over the world, women are assaulted while going for a morning run and they are still vigilant about the violence.

Around the world, 92 percent of women, or nine out of ten women, say they go for a run taking these precautions. This was revealed by a study conducted on 9000 men and women running in nine countries including China, Japan, France and the US.
51 percent of women said they fear being physically assaulted while going for a run. Only 28 percent of men said they were afraid of being assaulted at the same time. The survey revealed that 38 percent of women had been physically or mentally assaulted while they were out jogging. That includes nasty comments and sexual comments. Similarly, 53 percent said they had been stalked by men.

According to the survey, 69 percent of women are going to run after thinking about how to avoid and face any kind of violence and taking necessary precautions. This includes wearing loose clothing and having someone with you.

At the same time, women say that such violence has caused them great mental problems including anxiety. The survey was conducted by Vitreous World for Adidas as part of its ‘Women We Run’ initiative, in partnership with the White Ribbon Charity.
