by time news
Kulithalai: In Thokaimalai, traders have complained that private persons are involved in forced money collection from the traders who have carts and floor stalls along the Kulithalai – Manaparai highway.
Kulithalai – Manaparai Highway from Tokaimalai Checkpost to Union Office has residences and shops on both sides of the State Highway. In the empty space on both sides of the road, some people set up stalls and pushcarts and do business like flower, fruit and tiban shops and support their families with the income. The traders have complained that houses, shop owners, if they want to do business with a ground stall or trolley in front of their place, they have to pay them 100 to 200 rupees daily.
On the part of the traders, they said: They are collecting money from the ground shop operators in the empty space belonging to the State Highway Department. Even if private individuals, instead of collecting money, the Tokaimalai Panchayat, or the highways department collects the license fee, the amount accrues to the government as revenue.
However, Tokaimala police and district administration should take action to prevent individuals from claiming government space and engaging in money collection. They said this.
When asked about this by the officials of the highway department, they said: We have sought permission from Kuluthalai RTO to remove encroachments by individuals from the empty space along the Tokaimalai highway. Information was received about individuals collecting money from traders in Tokaimalai. Once the encroachment is removed, individuals are automatically barred from collecting money. This is what he said.
