Governor Rutilio Escandón Cadenas gave the starting signal for the 2023 State Government Food Programs, where he argued that this initiative seeks to guarantee the human right to access quality, healthy and nutritious food for children and youth, adults the elderly, pregnant women and people in vulnerable situations, especially from the poorest municipalities.

“Now more than ever, we prioritize food to care for the health and well-being of the population, especially in the most vulnerable sectors, because in this way we contribute to a stronger and more prosperous society, with a greater perspective of progress. We are convinced that if we attend to the right to food, we lay the foundations to build a better generation of Chiapas and Chiapanecos, ”he said.

Noting that through the Full Tummy, Happy Heart Back Home program, more than two million breakfasts are delivered to girls, boys and adolescents of the entity, and food rations in 35 highly and very highly marginalized municipalities, the president He endorsed the commitment to promote this program, as well as to continue aligned with the policies of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, because it is the best way to meet the true needs of the people.

From the DIF Chiapas facilities, Escandón Cadenas reiterated his gratitude to public servants, the business sector, and civil society, because through their donations, more than one million food packages were distributed house-to-house during the pandemic. , so that families avoid leaving their homes and exposing themselves to the risks of COVID-19.

Representing the General Directorate of Food and Community Development of the National DIF, Marianelly Villegas Martínez, recognized Chiapas for being one of the DIF systems with the highest coverage of school breakfasts, reaching almost 90 percent of girls and boys in vulnerable conditions. ; move to hot breakfasts with sufficient, varied and quality food, and for having one of the lowest costs per serving in the country.

“We recognize the effort of Chiapas to make efficient use of public resources and achieve important coordination to increase resources and responsibilities in the three levels of government, in the delivery of food aid,” he said.

Meanwhile, the director of the Chiapas DIF System, Deliamaría González Flandez, announced that by merging resources, this year there will be an investment of more than 1,326 million pesos to ensure the continuation of these programs, which, she said, from beginning of the current administration to date, the number of people benefited has grown by 50 percent.

He specified that the programs that are starting today serve pregnant or lactating women, girls and boys under the age of five who are not in school, the population that lives in highly marginalized places, and students of basic and upper secondary education, since for two years, students in vulnerable situations from Cobach and Cecyte Chiapas are served.

For his part, the Secretary for the Sustainable Development of Indigenous Peoples, Emilio Ramón Ramírez Guzmán, called on the municipalities to help this program reach the hands of the students so that there is greater well-being in their towns, while asking the and the beneficiaries with food support take advantage of it and make responsible use of it, since it is to improve their nutrition and healthy development.
