Shahjahanpur: A woman activist from Uttar Pradesh is undertaking a ௬௯0 km trek to create awareness among the people to save the polluted and shrinking river Gomati.
The Gomati River, a tributary of the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh, travels 690 km to Durat. Due to encroachments and addition of waste, the river is getting polluted. It has shrunk in many places. Gomati, once a perennial river, has now become a seasonal river.
In an effort to restore the river, Shipra Pathak, a naturalist, has started a padayatra. Hailing from Padaun district of Uttar Pradesh, he started his padayatra from the source of river Gomati in Pilipit district.
He said about this:
The people of the village where the river flows are saddened by its current state. They fear that they cannot do anything to protect it.
I am making them aware that by taking small efforts, we can save the river. Many people have supported me and joined the padayatra.
This is what he is saying.
