Former Minister of Justice and Member of the Knesset Gideon Saar (The state camp) participated this evening (Sunday) in a special zoom conference on the reform of the legal system in the presence of Prof. Yuval Albashan who initiated the Albashan-Friedman outline. In his words, MK Sa’ar opposed the outline in its current form.

Criticism of the President’s outline: “It has critical shortcomings”
“I greatly respect both Prof. Friedman and Prof. Albashan, but I disagree with the outline they presented,” stated MK Sa’ar at the beginning of his remarks, “the method for electing judges gives coalition control. And an excellent starting point even for the majority of the elite. The majority they require for judicial review is an extreme majority. The outline cannot be a basis for compromise.”
“It’s going to be a long struggle, we need to gather some breathing space for him,” he added, “it won’t end with the approval of this legislation, at the end of the winter conference the government’s attempt to confront all government systems, including an attempt to depose the speaker. Afterwards, Sa’ar said that “the Likud went through a long evolutionary process of changing its positions. The positions of the Freedom Movement were the most advocating for legislation. Prof. Yuval Albashan, who participated in the conversation, said: “Reactions like ‘legitimization must not be given’ are not acceptable to me. At this stage, it is impossible to fantasize about a compromise. I It doesn’t mean that the protest is from leftists. None of us think that our outline is a good outline and that we like it. This outline is a kind of ladder to bring everyone down from the trees. The only one that will allow us to start talking.”
After that, Prof. Albashan commented on the passage of reinforcement: “The real game is relevant to the ultra-Orthodox. The coalition did not withdraw from the passage of reinforcement. If there is such a thing with the majority of 61, the entry into force will be six months after the swearing-in of a new Knesset. Because it goes through elections and does not lead to a constitutional crisis.
