Greenvolt Next, from the Greenvolt Group, installed a Production Unit for Self-Consumption (UPAC) at the Industrial Production Unit of Essilor Portugal in Rio de Mouro, Sintra.

In a statement, the company informs that “the project consisted of the installation of more than 1,000 solar panels with a total power of 557 kWp (kilowatts peak)”, with “a production of 806 MWh (megawatts per hour) per year will respond to energy needs of the production unit, allowing, at the same time, a significant reduction in CO2 emissions by Essilor Portugal”.

The more than 1,000 photovoltaic solar panels, in addition to allowing a reduction in the energy bill, will reinforce the efforts of the subsidiary of the Franco-Italian ophthalmic lens company to reduce its carbon footprint, guarantees the company.

The Greenvolt Group company specializing in the development and design of energy projects using renewable sources will apply a total of 1,022 modules at Essilor Portugal’s facilities, located in Rio de Mouro, in the municipality of Sintra. These photovoltaic solar panels will have a capacity of 557 kWp, being capable of achieving an energy production of 806 MWh per year.

With these solar panels, in addition to enhancing the facilities of this multinational in Portugal, “it will be possible to significantly reduce the energy consumption of the network. This UPAC will supply a substantial percentage of the needs of the production unit, rationalizing costs and reducing the environmental impact of this unit”, advances Greenvolt.

“We designed a project adjusted to the needs of Essilor Portugal, seeking to respond both to the issue of reducing the energy bill and to the environmental concerns that, from the outset, were present”, says Pedro Lavareda de Carvalho, managing partner of Greenvolt Next Portugal, in the communicated.

“It is with deep satisfaction that we see another multinational company of reference taking this step, and above all seeing in Greenvolt Next the ideal partner to do so”, he adds.

Gustavo Pereira from Essilor Portugal points out that this commitment will help reduce CO2 emissions by around 439 tons per year.

“We have a clear vision of what we want for the future. In addition to continuing to work hard to provide our customers, in Portugal and Europe, with the best ophthalmic lenses on the market, we want our products and services to have the lowest possible impact on the environment”, he says.

Essilor Portugal belongs to the EssilorLuxottica Group, which resulted in 2018 from the merger of the French company Essilor with the Italian group Luxottica. With more than 400 employees in Portugal, Essilor Portugal produces and distributes ophthalmic lenses, being a market leader with renowned brands such as Varilux, Crizal, Transitions and Eyezen, exporting a large part of its production to other European markets.
