Tamil Nadu Cricket Association president Ashok Chikamani said in a press conference that one of the two newly renovated pavilion stands at Chennai’s Chepakkam Cricket Ground will be named after Tamil Nadu’s former Chief Minister Kalyan Karunanidhi.

While speaking, he said, “Artist Karunanidhi was not only interested in cricket but also provided 15 lakh rupees for the construction of the stadium.”

Tamil Nadu Cricket Association President Ashok Chikamani met the media in Chepakkam, Chennai today. Speaking at that time, he said, “Anna Pavilion and Madras Cricket Club, which have been functioning for the last 2 years in Chennai’s Chepakkam ground, have been demolished and a new one is being built. Its opening ceremony will be held on the 17th under the leadership of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.

The artist contributed a lot by providing financial support when the stadium started to be built!

Only one newly constructed stand is to be named after former Chief Minister Karunanidhi. Everyone knows that artist Karunanidhi is very passionate about cricket. But beyond that, when the construction of the Chepakkam stadium was first started, he gave 15 lakhs as a fund. That is why we named him.
