New York ∙ A state of emergency has been declared in New York since Monday amid warnings that a powerful winter storm could hit. The Meteorological Center has warned that rain and snow will start on Monday evening as low pressure has formed and strengthened in the coastal region.
The New Jersey-New York area is likely to experience heavy snow during Monday-Wednesday. Heavy snow has been issued for the Hudson Valley and a coastal flood warning has been issued for the Bronx. Heavy rain is also likely. Travel will be disrupted in the area for a few days. Power cuts are also possible.
Gov. Kathy Hochel has said that unnecessary travel to affected areas should not be allowed. More personnel have been deployed in areas prone to heavy snowfall. The governor said he is in constant contact with officials in local areas and has activated the National Guard for emergency services.
