The opening ceremony, which took place in Oslo, was chaired by the Chancellor of the Republic, Alexandra Hill, Norwegian authorities and members of the diaspora residing in that European country.

“This day will mark a milestone in the history of El Salvador. The opening of this Diplomatic and Consular Representation demonstrates the will of the Government of President Nayib Bukele to explore and invigorate our bilateral relationship with the Kingdom of Norway, a country that constitutes not only an example of prosperity for the world, but also a great reference for El Salvador”, said Minister Hill during the opening ceremony.

In her speech, the head of Salvadoran diplomacy stressed that our country “is currently experiencing an unprecedented stage of political, economic and social transformation, aimed at addressing and resolving the structural problems that, for decades, have stalled the country’s progress, through initiatives development strategies that place the human being as the central axis of state action, in all its dimensions”.

Similarly, he pointed out that the Government of El Salvador makes significant efforts to improve the trade and investment climate through large-scale development projects, without neglecting its commitment to social and environmental development, through the use of renewable energies.

Bets on development have also favored the security sphere, giving way to a historic reduction in violence in El Salvador.

“We want to build a reality where the architect of the future is the Salvadoran population, and especially, children and women,” he added.

In addition, he thanked the Norwegian authorities for their support throughout the process of opening the new diplomatic representation and for their interest in strengthening bilateral relations.

“We recognize the Kingdom of Norway as an indisputable benchmark in all these areas, wishing to work hand in hand with you to enhance our national development, also integrating international priorities in which Norway has established itself as a leader in the international arena, such such as peace and security, blue economy, sustainability, gender equality, among others”, he assured.

Likewise, he pointed out that the vision of the Government of President Bukele is focused on the positioning of our country in international spaces. “El Salvador’s commitment and willingness to contribute to the revitalization of the multilateral system is prevailing, and little by little we have verified that this is a common impetus both with the Kingdom of Norway, and with more and more partners in the international community, with who have taken historic steps in closing geographical and cultural gaps that, for years, distanced us,” he said.

For this reason, he stressed that the opening of this new embassy represents an “opportunity to deepen political dialogue and improve coordination mechanisms with this European partner, with a view to specifying support and initiatives that offer mutual benefits.”

“On behalf of the Government of Norway I want to welcome you and congratulate you on the inauguration of the embassy. There have been 70 years of relationship between El Salvador and Norway, cooperation and solidarity that have been a central part of our relationship and more recently, also investments,” said the official.

In addition, he pointed out the contribution of his country with initiatives in the field of health and education through the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries (NorFund), which has invested more than 70 million dollars in El Salvador to improve the development of the families.
