RIVM: increase in corona infections has come to a standstill, wave has passed peak

by time news

Measurements have shown that the number of virus particles in sewage water hardly rises anymore. The so-called Infection Radar also receives fewer reports from users about corona complaints. “Last week we already saw that the increase in positive tests in Infection Radar was leveling off. The decrease is what we expected,” said RIVM.

Corona is part of life

The institute no longer reports how many people received a positive test result at a GGD. The locations where people can get tested will close next Friday. According to the government, these locations are no longer necessary because corona has become part of everyday life. RIVM also stops reporting the reproduction number. That figure was calculated in recent years to measure how quickly the virus spread.

The number of hospital admissions is also no longer increasing. In the past week, 659 people ended up in hospital as a result of corona complaints. The week before, there were 774 admissions. It is the first time since January that the influx has fallen.

In total, the hospitals are now treating just over 900 people who have corona among their members, reports the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS). That number has been fairly stable over the past week.
