Haizea extends its facilities in the Port of Bilbao

Haizea Wind Group has started the expansion works of its facilities in the AZ-2 quay of the Port of Bilbao (Spain). The project, whose investment is more than 150 million euros, will result in a surface extension of more than 200,000 m² in the Biscayan port enclave, compared to the 48,800 m² currently available.

Likewise, the operator will go from having three ships to a total of six, as well as a new additional storage area to accommodate the monopiles before they are stowed for maritime transport.

It is worth mentioning that Haizea Bilbao has closed an agreement with the Iberdrola group worth more than 200 million euros to supply fifty monopiles from its facilities in the Bilbao enclave, destined for its East Anglia Three offshore wind farm (United Kingdom).

This contract is in addition to the one agreed last year with Ørsted and which will begin to be executed in 2025 for the supply of monopiles from its complex in Bilbao. Thanks to the aforementioned agreements, Haizea Wind Group has a work schedule in Bilbao that exceeds 1,500 million euros for the next four years.

Regarding the activity that is emerging in the Bilbao area at an international level, it is worth noting the fact that the maritime operator Ellerman City Liners has recently launched a new service, consigned by Marítima Dávila, which links the Port of Bilbao (Spain) with the east coast of the United States. It is a weekly connection, which works thanks to container ships with a capacity of more than 3,000 TEUs.
