Towards the end of 2021, a year in which we drove a little more than the year before, we felt an increasing load on the roads. In fact, there has been a 25 percent increase in travel compared to the pre-Corona period, and it’s time to understand more about the habits of Israeli drivers: what they prefer to snack on while driving and what song they prefer to hear. The “Year in the Back” survey conducted by the Waze app found the answers to these questions and other interesting questions.
The survey was conducted among drivers from Israel, USA, Canada, UK, France, Italy, Brazil and Mexico, how they are behind the wheel, what are their preferences, fun facts, aspirations and what they experienced on the road last year. After a year most of us stayed close For the home, 2021 was an opening for new opportunities to get back on the roads and also for traffic jams.

Driving Patterns: What strange behaviors, trends or habits did drivers display in 2021?
● The British are known as polite, it is not surprising that 60% will wait patiently if a car in front of them does not move. In Israel surprisingly, only 41% would prefer to honk in such a case.
● Drivers in Israel used their cars mainly to go shopping, and in second place Israelis preferred to travel to hotels.
Entertainment: What entertained the drivers this year and how are they coping with the increase in traffic and congestion?
● Sweets were chosen as the leading snack for drivers around the world, except in the US, where drivers preferred fast food while traveling.
● 45% of Israelis are willing to give up alcohol for a year for driving without traffic jams.
Only 6% will give up their phone; Only 2% of 55-64 year olds will give up their phones, but 38% of them will give up chocolate and takeaway.
● 45-54 year olds took advantage of the time in the car to make cell phone calls, and 55 to 64 year olds listened to music. The young people (aged 18 to 24) also took advantage of the time in the car to talk to the other passengers of the car most of all.

Dreams: What were the wish lists of drivers and passengers?
● 36% of drivers in Israel chose Batman’s Batmobile as their dream car and only then James Bond’s Aston Martin and Dollarian from the movie “Back to the Future”.
● Israelis dream of driving with Elon Musk, followed by Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce. 12% were happy that Kim Kardashian would sit next to them in the passenger seat.
● Carpool is the best solution for reducing traffic jams for 33% of drivers worldwide, in Israel 45% of the center residents say they would share a car ride with a friend or colleague to reduce travel time to work, while 36% of Tel Aviv residents would move for a short drive More.
