The Mauritanian federation of bakeries and pastries threatened in the night from Thursday to Friday to stop their production next Monday “if solutions are not found to the problems posed” this in less than a week before the month of Ramadan.

The federation justified its decision by the fact that the state did not honor the commitments it made at various stages, including a subsidy for flour and hydrocarbons.

In a letter addressed to the Ministry of the Interior and Decentralization, the federation adds another problem, that of the decision of the supervising ministry to reorganize the sector, contained in an order of the minister, without involving the federation in its drafting.

The federation specifies that it has continued to maintain bread prices and to ensure its supply “despite the significant increases experienced by all the components of the product two years ago, the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian war and increased wages for employees.

She added that she had endured all these difficulties, hoping for state intervention that could help ease the weight of the burden borne by the bakers.

Finally, the federation adds that “all these problems together mean that bakers are no longer able to continue to supply the market which remains our common objective. »
