Vicky Riegel told “Fox 31 Denver”: “We went to the closing on Friday, everyone was laughing and excited. We signed a lot of papers.” Later, one of the workers went to check the funds that the mother and her daughter had, and this is where the big celebration ended: “He asked, ‘Where did you send your funds?’ And I told him, ‘I sent them to you.’ As soon as he said it hadn’t reached him, I realized I was in big trouble.”

The funds were sent to an account not identified with the company Vicky worked for, and it later turned out that her email address had been hacked by crooks. “At some point the email chain was broken and I started receiving fraudulent emails, which I didn’t recognize as such at first,” said Vicky.
