The unemployment rate, which measures unemployment in the country, was 8.4% in the quarter ended in January, points out the Pnad, from the IBGE. This rate represents stability compared to the previous quarter, which ended in October 2022, when it stood at 8.3%
Difference between Pnad and Caged
Data from Caged (General Register of Employed and Unemployed) are from the federal government. The numbers refer only to contracts governed by the CLT, and the companies themselves fill in the information in their own system.
The IBGE Pnad is broader, and comprises the informal labor market. The survey is carried out with interviewers, who ask about the work situation of a sample of the population.
Methodology
Pnad Contínua is the main instrument for monitoring the workforce in the country. The survey sample per quarter in Brazil corresponds to 211,000 households surveyed. About two thousand interviewers work on the survey, in 26 states and the Federal District.
