Meanwhile, Sridhar Vembu tweeted on Thursday that even though Joha has cut back on hiring, the company’s long-term growth plan is rural.
“Our rural expansion continues, now at Keppur in Madurai… We have reduced hiring drastically as we are growing very slowly, but our long-term growth plan is rural and we are building facilities for that,” he posted.
In November 2019, Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu moved from Silicon Valley to a village in Tamil Nadu’s Thenkasi district, a move aimed at uplifting rural communities. The software maker plans to intensify its rural revitalization efforts. Zoho commissioned Economix Consulting Group to study the socio-economic impact of its presence in South Asia. Its office, which opened a decade ago in 2011, has improved employment opportunities and quality of life for local people in the district, the report said. The report is based on 7,300 minutes of conversations with nearly 300 stakeholders.
