There is life outside London: the must-see places in Britain

by time news

Britain is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and has many places that attract millions of tourists every year. It is unnecessary to expand on London, and many also travel to Liverpool and Manchester following the Beatles or football, and to the famous Stonehenge site. But there are also less well-known and touristic places in the kingdom, which you should definitely rent a car or travel from London by train, and visit them.

The Cotswolds

The Coastwolds region is located in the county of Gloucestershire in the southwest of England, and is one of the coveted pearls of the island: a green rural strip, which provides a magical reminder of the old England, the one before the extensive industrialization that we read about in books. The main town in the area is Cheltenham, known for its baths and horse racing, but the main interest and beauty is in the small villages.

Two of them are called “Upper Slaughter” and “Lower Slaughter”, which can only be translated as “Upper Slaughter” and “Lower Slaughter”. Despite the threatening name, these are two green and picturesque villages.

Another focal point that should not be missed is the village of Bourton-on-the-Water, another magical village in the center of which, as its name implies, is a river with bridges in a unique triangular shape. Kinks fans, like me, can see songs like Village Green or Sitting by the Riverside as if resurrected here.

York

The county of Yorkshire is considered one of the most beautiful in England, and the most beautiful city in it is York, an ancient city in which many buildings have been preserved since the Middle Ages. The main attraction in York is the impressive cathedral, which has been renovated in recent years, but apart from that it is recommended to walk around the streets of the city and be impressed by the very unique construction.

Another attraction in the city is the British National Railway Museum. The steam trains are a real symbol of Britain, a symbol of a time when the sun never set on the British Empire. Here you can feel them in natural size.

Snowdonia

Snowdonia National Park is probably the main tourist attraction of Wales. It is located around the beautiful Snowdon mountain, the top of which can be reached by a special train. Even if you forego the ride, you can also see it from below and be impressed.

Not far away is the village of Betws-y-Coed (places in Wales have names that look like someone typed in another language and forgot to press caps lock), home to the impressive Swallow Falls.

Highland Scots

The most beautiful area in Scotland is the Highlands area, full of mountains and lakes. Everyone knows Loch Ness, the lake where, according to legend, the famous monster resides, but around it are no less spectacular sites: Mount Ben Nevis – the highest mountain in Britain, Loch Lomond, and the picturesque town of Fort William, where you can rent a hotel room with a view directly to Lake Linaha.
