Former Member of Parliament of Amparai district of Tamil National Federation Podiyappu Piyasena died in hospital after being involved in an accident.
This morning; Piyasena, who was traveling in Unturuli, collided with a bus on the Akkaraipattu main road in Pothu and met with an accident.
It is reported that he was seriously injured in the accident and died after being admitted to the intensive care unit of Kalmunai Aadar Hospital.
In 2010, Piyasena was elected to Parliament by contesting in Amparai district on behalf of Tamil Tesiya Federation.
However, he later left the federation and joined the United People’s Freedom Front led by Mahinda Rajapaksa.
At the same time, it is noteworthy that in 2015, he contested the parliamentary elections through the United People’s Freedom Front and failed.
