PSG: Fabian Ruiz back in the Spanish selection

by time news

Almost two years later, Fabian Ruiz is called up again with his national team. The Spaniard had not defended the colors of La Roja since Euro 2021. The Iberian selection had been eliminated in the semi-finals by Italy (1-1, 4-2 on the tab). The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder had a bad relationship with former coach Luis Enrique. But the latter left after the Spanish elimination in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup against Morocco (0-0, 3-0 on the tab). New coach Luis de la Fuente has called up Fabian Ruiz for the March games against Norway (25th) and Scotland (28th).

At 26, the midfielder has 15 caps to his name. Before his non-selection for the World Cup in Qatar, he had nevertheless refuted the existence of a falling out with Luis Enrique: “I have no problem with the coach. I wish the best to my team. My focus is on PSG at the moment and my contribution to the team’s game.” But not seeing him in the roster for the competition hadn’t been a surprise.

Only Parisian on the list

Arrived this summer at Paris Saint-Germain, from Naples, Fabian Ruiz is having an encouraging season with the capital club. The Spaniard has appeared in 28 games this season, scored one goal and provided two assists. Discreet, he made his way quietly. Enough to convince Luis de la Fuente to call on him.

For the other Spanish players of PSG, the discovery of the list was perhaps less joyful. Goalkeeper Sergio Rico and defender Juan Bernat have not been called up. The same is true for Sergio Ramos since he announced his international retirement last February. Midfielder Carlos Soler, present at the 2022 World Cup, was also not called up by Luis de la Fuente.
