Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police has released video footage of accidents caused by drivers’ negligence. The police have released video footage of a few incidents in which vehicles hit and injured pedestrians walking on the zebra crossings designated for pedestrians to cross the road through social media. Abu Dhabi Police’s message is to completely avoid negligence on the road which can lead to major accidents.

The Directorate of Traffic and Patrols has reminded drivers that pedestrians should be given priority at designated areas for crossing the road. Being careless and not considering pedestrians in such places can lead to accidents. In the video clip released by the Abu Dhabi Police, speeding vehicles knock down those crossing the road through the zebra crossing. A cyclist can also be seen in such an accident in the footage.

Drivers are required to slow down when approaching pedestrian crossings. Then people should check if anyone is trying to cross the road and if anyone is waiting to cross. The police also remind that the safety of pedestrians on the road is a joint responsibility of them and other motorists.

Failure to give way to pedestrians at marked crossing points is an offense punishable by a Dh500 fine under the UAE Federal Traffic Law. Apart from having to pay the fine, you will also get six black points on your driving license. Watch the video released by the police…
