The image is unexpected, the dream of any communicator. Friday, March 17 in the morning, the deputies of La France insoumise (LFI), standing, and their signs “64 years old is no” in front of Elisabeth Borne at the National Assembly make the headlines New York Times. There are also environmentalists and communists in the photo, seated. They did not cover the song of The Marseillaise the Prime Minister’s speech, a question of political culture. The Socialists are out of line; if they stopped at the first verse, they also know the song (and the method): they had done exactly the same thing in 2009 during debates against the right.
But no matter the differences in style, since the announcement of the use of Article 49.3 of the Constitution, the left, in all its forms, seems galvanized. While in recent days, the leaders of the New People’s Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) were asked to explain a potential breathlessness of the movement, here they are revived. The 49.3? It’s a “authoritarian shift”for the leader of the “rebellious” deputies, Mathilde Panot (LFI). “A new success for the unions” and the sign of“a personal and authoritarian practice of power” for his environmentalist counterpart, Cyrielle Chatelain.
On the side of LFI, the great communication mechanism of the presidential campaign seems almost back. Jean-Luc Mélenchon was in the stands of the Assembly on Thursday afternoon, watching « ses » deputies, then he quickly joined the symbolic Place de la Concorde, from where he split, among the demonstrators, a speech raising the“spectacular failure, the physical collapse of the presidential minority”. The former deputy multiplies the interventions, until Friday morning, on France Inter, to congratulate himself for having ” hit [son] objective, this text has no parliamentary legitimacy”.
At the heart of the game
A way for Mr. Mélenchon to put himself back at the heart of the political game. At the center of a movement which he designates as that of the“popular unit”, much more than union unity. To the point that, among the “rebellious” young people, some are now certain that, without them, the mobilization would not exist. This is not the case of Clémentine Autain (LFI), who plays a little different music on Friday. “It is not enough to call for social mobilization to gain politically”notes the MP on her blog, calling for “Always give more body and flesh, density and credibility” to the alliance of the Nupes.
