Orlando López, hero or villain? It is the debate that has moved opinion on social networks since yesterday, where a group presents him as the victim of a twisted revenge, while others point out that in addition to running over an individual and fleeing, López committed abuse of authority. Raúl Falla, strongly criticized by supporters of the former Human Rights prosecutor, explains why he considers that there was more than one crime in López’s actions.

“There was a clear abuse of authority,” says the complainant, who explains that the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity (FECI) requested the arrest warrant because there are sufficient indications. “Next Tuesday at eight thirty in the morning will be the hearing, we hope that due process is respected.”
As reported, the man captured is not a “hero and defender of human rights”, but a lawyer who, after being suspended from his duties for many indications of a serious crime, ended up working as a legal consultant at the Human Rights Office of the Archbishopric ( ODHA), although he had not abandoned his position in the MP, which made him “party and judge”.
This, he indicates, because the ODHA was one of the plaintiffs in a process where López was a prosecutor. As a result of a traffic accident in which he was accused of homicide, López was suspended from the Public Ministry (MP), by Thelma Aldana, who chose not to dismiss him, says Falla.
As indicated, prosecutors in office cannot work as lawyers and/or notaries, and in the case of this prosecutor, he carried out both activities, violating the law. “We saw him as the defender of Juan Francisco Solórzano Foppa in the case of Karina de Rottman, and we learned that he also carried out several notarial deeds. The most serious thing was his advice to the ODHA. That is unusual, because as a prosecutor he became the plaintiff’s legal adviser. He was judge and party, in frank abuse of authority ».
Now, Falla indicates, his defense lawyer is the lawyer Reyes Chitín, who is also from CALDH, an NGO that was also a party to the “genocide” trial. This is an indication of the compromise between “human rights defenders” and the prosecutor, she points out.

As indicated, López was driving a Toyota Hilux owned by the MP, although he did not go to the institutional insurance to repair it, but to a private workshop.
“The event occurred between kms 120 and 121 of Teculután, Zacapa. The prosecutor was seriously drunk, according to witnesses. After running over Aldana, he fled along with his security agents, whom he pointed out as having induced him to flee.”
Falla mentions that according to the investigation, the luminol found traces of blood in the vehicle. This, in addition to testimonies and other evidence, made López the subject of proceedings. Although captured, the investigation was stopped and later, the prosecutor began to work in organizations that defend human rights, the interviewee concludes.
