A young Cuban named Yasiel Fajardo Aguilar, 24 years old, urgently requires a change of pacemaker, the problem is that this vital device is out of stock on the Island.

Faced with the critical situation, his aunt Marisol Aguilar Flores asked for help on Facebook to get this mechanism, which is surgically placed in the heart to regulate the heartbeat.

“His pacemaker reached the maximum time of 10 years, and for now he is kept with equipment until he finds the opportunity to change it. Please, we ask for any institution or person that can help us, we are desperate, he is a young man who is just beginning to live ”, he added.

Yasiel, who is admitted to the Institute of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery in Havana, underwent surgery 27 days after he was born and, from that moment, they placed the aforementioned device with which he will have to be throughout his life.

Whoever has the possibility of helping this young man can contact his mother, María Elena Aguilar, by dialing the number 51 53 39 13. Likewise, his father, Joaquín Fajardo, can be contacted through 51721769. This family lives in the municipality Jiguaní, province of Granma.

How does a pacemaker work?

The pacemaker emits regular electrical impulses to stimulate the heart and maintain a steady, regular heart rhythm. This device consists of three main components: the pulse generator, the cables, and the electrodes.

The pulse generator is a small box that contains a battery and an electronic circuit that produces electrical impulses. Wires connect it to the electrodes, which are small metal rods that are inserted into the heart.

Once the pacemaker is implanted in the body, the pulse generator begins to deliver electrical impulses through the leads and electrodes. These stimulate the heart muscle and cause it to contract, which causes the heart to beat. The frequency and pattern of the impulses can be programmed by a physician to suit the specific needs of the patient.

The pacemaker is placed in people who have problems with their heart rhythm, specifically if it is too slow or irregular. Some of the conditions that may require the use of this mechanism are sick sinus syndrome, heart block, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
