The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, reported that twelve people died in the province of El Oro, on the border with Peru, and two in Azuay, also located in southern Ecuador.

According to the Ecuadorian authorities, the earthquake left 381 injured, several of whom were visited in health centers by the head of state, who in a press conference on Saturday night indicated that two other people died as a result of winter.

The military supported the air evacuation of the wounded from the city of Machala to health centers in Guayaquil.

Official reports in Ecuador show 90 houses affected, 44 destroyed, fifty educational units affected. In addition, damage was reported to 17 public assets, 20 private assets, 31 health centers, among others.

After the earthquake that was felt in 13 of the 24 provinces of the country, four more of magnitudes 4.8 were registered, as well as 3.7 and two of 3.5, with an epicenter in the extreme northeast of Puná Island in the Gulf from Guayaquil (southwest).

Among the damages to infrastructures, the collapse of facades, broken glass and cracks in walls, among others, were reported.

The United States Geological Survey reported the telluric movement in the coastal region of Guayas. It had its epicenter about 80 kilometers south of Guayaquil, the second largest city in Ecuador, where buildings and houses were preliminarily reported cracked, broken glass, some walls fallen, and shops that closed for fear of aftershocks.
