San Miguel. The authorities of the Lempa River Hydroelectric Executive Commission (CEL) have started this Friday the Casas Malla program in the municipality of Carolina, San Miguel, which seeks to promote the economic development of 13 families.

Through this new program, the autonomous intends to generate conditions that bring their own income through the cultivation of vegetables that allow them to consume and sell, which will translate into a better quality of life, the authorities explained.

The projections are that in the first harvest, the producers who live in the so-called “Housing Complex” achieve 1.5 tons of chilies, chives, carrots, radishes and aromatic herbs.

The producers already have the appropriate training, given by specialized technicians provided by the autonomous company, said the Head of Social Responsibility of CEL, Alexander Zamora.

Mayan houses consist of a kind of mesh-covered spaces that have a drip and spray irrigation system; This form of production does not require the use of agrochemicals, which makes it possible to obtain organic and healthy products, opening the opportunity to make these families more productive and self-sustaining.

Although this initiative, which is considered an environmental measure, is planned for three years, the autonomous company’s commitment is to keep this support for producers permanently, Zamora explained.
