Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board has abandoned the ‘Ukkadam Lake View’ project to build 672 houses at a cost of Rs 63.84 crore.

On behalf of this department, the construction of flats is going on at Ukkadam Pullukadu Maidan, Variety Hall Road, Chittaputur, CMC, Colony etc.

Ukkadam CMC, Colony – 2 project, 520 houses to be constructed at a cost of Rs.49.40 crore; Currently, only 222 houses are under construction. The rest of the houses can be built in another block only if the corporation demolishes the retail fish market complex.

At Ukkadam Pullukadu ground, after the construction of the fish market has been completed and the shops here have been converted, the residential construction work has to be started.

Nearby, the Rs 63.84 crore ‘Ukkadam Lake View’ project, which will build 672 houses, will require the vacating of housing board flats. The residents have been given several notices; A warning notice board was also put up.

An alternate site of 3 acres has been allotted from the Corporation in Pullukadu Maidan. The Urban Habitat Development Board has said it does not have the funds to set up the tent; Corporation management has also slipped. Due to this, the residents did not come forward to vacate the house.

It has been officially announced that the project allocated funds in the financial year 2019-20 has been abandoned as it has not been started for four years.

This has caused shock among the people of the area.
