The Film Authority in Riyadh organized a workshop entitled: “Cinema as a Source of Knowledge”, presented by Dr. Musab Al-Omari.
The workshop dealt with the concept of knowledge and its sources, the role that cinema plays in transmitting various sciences to the recipient, and the impact of new technologies on narration and visual performances, in the presence and participation of students of arts and cinema majors in Saudi universities, and a group of interested and specialists in the film industry in the Kingdom.
The first session, entitled: “Cinema is a tool for education, enlightenment and information,” began with defining the concept of “knowledge” and how cinematic art contributed to its transmission through many films, referring to the challenge facing filmmakers in how to present entertainment work that includes education and knowledge.

It also discussed “the role of cinema in keeping pace with modern developments” and the impact of new technologies on storytelling and visual expression, and showing changing social trends and cultural developments. He cited the movie Black Mirror 2018, which allows the viewer to choose the course of the film’s events, and talked about the changing social trends, cultural developments, and new forms of performances after the advent of interactive films, after which he reviewed models of cinematic works that keep pace with recent developments in the field of filmmaking and the promotion of this sector.
The second session, entitled “The Limits of the Effect of Cinema on the Audience,” reviewed how to create cognitive identity through cinematic performances by highlighting the elements: environment, language, heritage, and religion.

Dr. Al-Omari discussed the possibilities that contribute to the desired effect on the recipient, and how to benefit from the historical and human heritage, the cultural abundance and the political position of the Kingdom for three centuries, reviewing some local models of Saudi films, including: Born as a King 2019, The Perfect Candidate 2019.
It is noteworthy that the workshop organized by the Film Authority, in a media partnership with Sollywood, comes within a series of periodic workshops organized by the Authority as part of its efforts to advance the film sector and its workers, by enhancing awareness and cinematic knowledge and discussing the most important topics related to how to develop the skills of amateurs and professionals in the field, with Presenting the challenges they face and ways to overcome them, and turning them into opportunities that can be invested into successful experiences.
