Madurai: The Madurai branch of the High Court has granted conditional anticipatory bail to the BJP spokesperson in the case of spreading rumors on social media by North State workers.

The Thoothukudi Central Police has registered a case against Delhi-based BJP spokesperson Prashant Kumar Umrao for spreading rumors on social media about the brutal murder of 12 laborers from Bihar in Tamil Nadu. Prashant Kumar Umrao filed a petition seeking anticipatory bail in the Madurai branch of the High Court.

Judge Ilandraiyan heard this petition. When the petition had already come up for hearing, Tuticorin Police’s counter-petition was filed by Additional State Criminal Prosecutor RM Anbu Nithi. Later, he argued that the petitioner had spread rumors on Twitter to deliberately create trouble between the workers of the two states in a peaceful Tamil Nadu.

This is not his first tweet. He has been uploading many illegal and false information on Twitter. His video created an extraordinary atmosphere in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government acted immediately and brought peace among the workers in the northern states. A team of Northern State officials came to Tamil Nadu and inspected.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu personally met the workers of the northern state and gave them confidence that the state is safe. A helpline has been announced for workers in northern states. A large number of workers from the northern states were fearfully contacted. He said that anticipatory bail should not be granted to the petitioner who planned and acted with the intention of causing law and order problem in Tamil Nadu.

Then the judges, the petitioner is a lawyer. Why did he repost such a video on his Twitter page? Did he not know the seriousness of the consequences of that video? Let the petitioner stay wherever he wants. Is he not socially responsible? He opined that every person should have social responsibility. The judge then adjourned the judgment for an unspecified date.

Meanwhile, the case came up for hearing again today, when Prashant Kumar Umra was granted anticipatory bail, he had to stay in Thoothukudi for 15 days and sign daily at the police station there. A letter of assurance that he will not spread such rumors from now on should be given. If he violates it, his anticipatory bail will automatically be cancelled, Judge Ilandraiyan ordered.
