As lawyer Yury Kapshtyk noted, twisting the mileage is necessary in order to increase the cost of the car. According to him, most often the odometer readings are corrected on cars worth up to 1 million rubles. Among premium cars, twisted mileage occurs in a third of cases.

At the same time, Kapshtyk noted that administrative fines for changing the indicators on the odometer will not change the situation, instead “it is necessary to introduce criminal liability.”

In April 2021, the Drome autoportal provided statistics according to which 65% of cars on the Russian secondary market have signs of twisted mileage. Most often they are found among cars worth up to 500,000 rubles. (73%), less often – from 3 million rubles. (thirty%).
