Boris Johnson under siege. Monday theDaily Mail had come out with an explosive story: last fall Boris allegedly said at a government meeting that he preferred to see thousands of bodies piled up due to the pandemic rather than impose a new lockdown. The premier called the revelations junk and sent his ministers forward to deny everything: but then there Bbc, the television Itv and also the Times they have had confirmation from other sources, probably on a cue by Cummings.

The paradox that up to now Boris seemed to be on the crest of the wave: the success of vaccinations, the promising news on the economic front, even the commitment against the Super League had made his popularity soar. But maybe that’s why his internal opponents decided it was time to strike.
