CHENNAI: Many people have requested the Electricity Regulatory Commission to reduce the charges to one charge for electric vehicle ‘charging’ centers instead of three charges on the same day. In this regard, the Commission has sought the opinion of the Electricity Board.

Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has increased the electricity tariff from 10th September, 2022. In it, the charges for electric vehicle public charging centers were fixed.

Accordingly, in the morning, from 5:00 am to 10:00 am; 10 rupees per unit from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Morning, 10:00 a.m. to Noon, 2:00 p.m.; 8 per unit from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM

From 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., a unit charge of Rs.12 has been fixed. Apart from this, the service charge is Rs 550 per 1 kilo watt per month

When charging an electric vehicle at home, you can pay for that segment.

Due to the tax rebate, the number of people using electric vehicles running on ‘battery’, which does not affect the environment, is increasing in Tamil Nadu as an alternative to petrol and diesel.

Charging a car requires between 15 units and 30 units of electricity, depending on the model of the car. A single charge will give you a range of 100 km to 300 km. Charges start at Rs 15 per unit to charge a vehicle at charging centres.

This charge, in other states, is only up to Rs 7 per unit. Therefore, many people have requested to reduce the charging center fee in Tamil Nadu as well.

An official of the Electricity Regulatory Commission said:

For public charging centres, this is the time when the charges have been fixed anew. There have been requests from many parties, such as vehicle manufacturers and motorists, to reduce the fare.

Therefore, the opinion of the Electricity Board has been sought regarding how many charging centers there are and how much their electricity usage is. Based on this, the next step will be considered.

This is what he said.
