Amazon shuts down popular photography site DPReview

by time news

The reductions in Amazon hurt photography enthusiasts: the company decided to close DPReview, which was founded in 1998 and purchased by it in 2007. The site gained a reputation for detailed reviews of cameras, lenses and related equipment, and now it will be closed shortly. DPReview will maintain a small number of employees whose job it will be to finish the activity, then it will be closed, and the content will be deleted.

“DPReview will be locked, and will no longer be updated after April 10, 2023. After that, it will be available in read-only mode for a limited period,” the website explains. Until April 6, users will be able to request a download of all the images and text they have uploaded to the site.

The DPReview team joins the 18,000 other Amazon workers who were laid off in January and9,000 more workers laid off Yesterday (Monday). The first round of layoffs affected, among other things, employees in the company’s physical stores and its robotics division. The second round should mainly affect Amazon’s web services.

Even before Amazon’s decision to shut down the site, DPReview was struggling to keep the staff needed to maintain its lab, which was the basis of its detailed reviews. Only last August, the website tried to replace its review editor. Insiders reported that the company is having difficulty recruiting employees due to the strict skill requirements.
