Donating sperm is not as fun or funny as on TV, it is much harder than you think to be selected. Two major sperm collection centers, California Cryobank and Fairfax Cryobank, accept only 1% of applicants due to low sperm count, adverse health history, genetics or other factors. High donors are more in demand. If you have been accepted as a donor, you can donate twice a week, at approximately $125 USD per sample.
Females can sell their eggs for a substantial fee. The New York University (NYU) Langone Fertility Center pays $10,000 per donation. State laws vary, but generally donors must be between the ages of 21 and 35, and it helps if you’ve given birth before. Donors are given a series of fertility drugs to increase the number of eggs the body releases. The eggs will be collected in a minor surgical procedure.
The womb is more of a rent than a sale. You will be a surrogate to give birth to a baby. It’s a long process – beyond the nine-month pregnancy, there are many medical tests, pairing with one or a set of parents, and contract negotiations. There are significant potential health risks to carrying a pregnancy and giving birth to the baby. There is no set rate, and many surrogacy agencies advertise that they earn more than $50,000, plus monthly allowances, lost wages and other fees.
Women who carry babies as surrogates can continue to earn after giving birth by selling breast milk. Many new mothers overproduce breast milk and can support mothers who produce less. There may be a milk bank in your area where you can donate, but you can also donate at home, with your own pump and storage containers. Organizations typically offer $1-$5 per ounce. Some mothers even create a small business with their breast milk.
Bone marrow is made inside your bones. There are two types of bone marrow donations, a surgical option and a non-surgical option. Be sure you know what you will be doing. Paying organizations offer up to $700 for a 60-minute donation.
