“I ate cheese, nuts and cold hamburgers”: how Aurélien Sanchez tamed the Barkley

by time news

“I was just hoping to be able to finish this race and I didn’t expect such a result! Everything was lined up for me for this race.” Five days after his feat, Aurélien Sanchez has no physical after-effects but still seems to have trouble realizing that he has finished and even won the race considered to be the toughest in the world. On March 17, this runner from Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) created a sensation by passing the legendary yellow barrier of Barkley in Tennessee in first position in 58 hours and 23 minutes, after having covered nearly 200 km with 20,000 m of positive elevation. He is the first Frenchman to win this ultratrail race, in which no participant had completed the course for six years!
