Employees of the São Paulo Metro go on strike; company announces contingency plan

São Paulo subway workers went on strike, for an indefinite period, starting at 0:00 am this Thursday (23). Therefore, the Metrô de SP will activate its contingency plan, as informed by the company. That is, it will enable the operation of important parts of the system.

With the decision, taken this Wednesday (22), trains on lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red and 15-Silver will have restricted circulation. Lines 4-Yellow and 5-Lilac will work normally.

The vote in favor of the strike took place after a meeting between the Union of Subway Workers and the management of the São Paulo Metropolitan Company, at the TRT (Regional Labor Court).

At this meeting, company representatives informed that they did not have authorization from the government of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) to pay the allowance requested by the category, according to union reports. The TRT of the 2nd Region (TRT-2) suggested that the union and the Company establish a “peace clause” to suspend the strike, but this did not happen.

In addition, the City Hall of São Paulo informed that the municipal vehicle rotation will be suspended on Thursday, due to the strike.

The union claimed the allowance to replace non-payment of PRs (profit sharing) from 2020 to 2022. Negotiations began on January 11 and lasted for five meetings.

In them, the category chose to wait for conciliation, until this Wednesday night. In an assembly, 51.83% of voting professionals supported the strike, while 45.21% did not support it and 2.96% abstained.
