An additional PLN 500 can be applied for by pensioners who are over 75 and receive a care allowance, as well as seniors over 65 who are disabled. The payment of additional money is possible thanks to the benefit introduced by the government – 500 plus for people unable to live independently.

The right to the 500+ benefit for dependents also depends on the total amount of cash benefits financed from public funds. Since March, it has been a gross amount of PLN 1,896.13. This means that the total gross amount of an old-age or disability pension or other cash benefits financed from public funds or benefits from a foreign institution competent for retirement and disability pensions may not exceed this amount.
Retirees can receive up to PLN 100 higher pension if they submit an application for recalculation of the benefit. However, not all retirees can do this. Eligible seniors are those who:
- acquired the right to a pension under the new rules (they acquired pension rights in the period April 2022 – March 2023);
- were born after December 31, 1948 and those born after the aforementioned date, who worked and saved contributions after the granting of a pension (and also acquired pension rights in the period April 2022 – March 2023).
Seniors who served as firefighters, firemen and mountain rescuers can increase their benefit by up to PLN 200. Retirement age and years of service are included in the award of the supplement. Seniors who qualify for an additional benefit should submit an application to the poviat or municipal commandant. If the application is approved, the additional money will be paid for life by the Ministry of the Interior and Administration.
