In order to guarantee quality care with state-of-the-art technology for users of the Dr. Enrique Ortega Moreira General Hospital (HGEOM) in Durán, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) managed the donation by the Japanese government of a tomograph multi-slice capable of scanning the human body in 16 seconds and reconstructing up to 128 three-dimensional images.

The equipment, brand Canon Prime SP Aquilion, allows greater amplitude, sharpness and precision in the results. It has a touch screen, virtual navigation and has a stretcher that performs automatic movements, ensuring accuracy in the shots.

The cooperation of the government of Japan includes the installation of the equipment, tests of operation and training of the personnel for the optimal operation of the biomedical equipment. Once implemented, the team will perform around 500 monthly tomographies of the thorax, abdomen, brain, bone and soft parts; very useful for cardiac, pulmonary, and colon surgeries, among others.

These types of computerized tests are completely safe, they create detailed images of the interior of the human body, which include visualization of the stomach, blood vessels, bladder, larynx, etc.

In the private sector, the cost of a tomography ranges between 150 and 300 dollars, while in this health center it is totally free, as are all the services offered by the Ministry of Health nationwide.
