38 euros: this is what people caught feeding stray cats in Songeons, a town located about twenty kilometers from Beauvais (Oise), risk. A municipal decree to this effect was taken on March 15, reports News Oise.
In the document, the town hall evokes a “recrudescence of stray cats” and “the need (…) to keep the municipal territory (…) in a good state of cleanliness and health”. Thus, the decree stipulates that it is “expressly forbidden to let cats wander on the public highway alone and without a master or guardian”.
“Annoyance for the neighborhood”
It is also forbidden to attract felines “by throwing food at them in all public places” but also private places when “this practice risks embarrassing the neighborhood or attracting rodents”. Anyone caught red-handed will be penalized with a 1st class fine, i.e. 38 euros.
