Survey: In Latvia, 46% of the population is at risk of becoming a victim of financial fraud

On the other hand, more than a third of the population admitted that they would probably not be able to recognize whether the page of the internet bank that opened when clicking on the link is real or fake, the survey concluded.

According to the survey data, 22% of the population are sure that they would be able to recognize a fraudulent text message or letter, but could catch a fraudulent call. On the other hand, 16% indicated that they definitely know how to recognize a fraudulent call, but could click on a link sent in a text message or letter.

At the same time, 8% of respondents admitted that they do not know how to recognize a fraudulent call, text message or letter.

Mārcis Pelcis, head of the Security Department of “SEB banka”, states that 54% of the population are sure that they would certainly be able to recognize a fraudulent call, text message or letter and would never become a victim of cyber fraudsters.

The survey data shows that 20% of the respondents would rather not be able to recognize whether the page opened by clicking on the link is real. On the other hand, 5% would certainly not be able to recognize a fake internet bank. Another 14% of respondents noted that they do not really know if they would be able to recognize a page created by fraudsters.

The population survey in Latvia was conducted by the company “Norstat Latvija” in March 2023, on the order of “SEB banka”. 1004 respondents aged between 18 and 74 took part in it.
