A video that has gone viral on social media shows a scary moment during a bungee jump – a scary jump in itself, certainly when the rope snaps and the jumper plunges down from a height of thirty meters.
Bungee jumping is a jump from a fixed and elevated place such as a cliff or a bridge that is restrained by an elastic rope wrapped around the jumper’s ankles and connecting him to the bone from which he jumped. The elasticity of the rope creates gradual braking and prevents injury.
But when the rope snapped, Mike, the man who flew from the height in the city of Pattaya in Thailand, fell down quickly. Luckily, he fell into a reservoir, which prevented his death. He passed out on the spot, but survived with only minor injuries.
In a conversation with the CNN network, Mike recalled: “It was really high and I closed my eyes during the jump. I planned to open them again after the renewed jump up, but I realized that the rope had broken when I opened my eyes and saw that I was surrounded by water. If this had happened to a person who does not know how to swim – he would have been found In great trouble.”
He described, “I landed on my left side, so most of the injuries are there. It felt like someone hit me really hard and brutally.”
The director of the park said that this is the first time that a serious incident of this kind has occurred. According to the CNN report, the park paid Mike all his medical expenses, and compensated him.
