Rajkot: In the Vijay Hazare Trophy (Chhattisgarh) against Chhattisgarh, Kerala batted poorly. Kerala, who set a target of 190 for victory at Rajkot, were 131 for five in 26 overs. Vishnu Vinod (0) and Vinoop Sheela Manoharan (5) are at the crease. Earlier, Sijomon’s five – wicket haul reduced Chhattisgarh to a small score.
Kerala collapsed to 82 for no loss. Opener Mohammad Azharuddin (45) was the top scorer. Rohan Kunnummal scored 36 runs. Sanju Samson (0) disappointed once again. He was dismissed on the first ball of the innings. Rohan was the first to return. Ajay Mandal bowled the ball. He had 82 runs on the scoreboard at the time.
Kerala lost Azharuddin and Sanju by the same score. Both were released by Sumit Ruiker. Sanju was getting bowled. Sachin Baby (4) returned with a score of 89. Tendulkar was dropped by Ajay. Ajay also dismissed Sijomon who started well.
Earlier, captain Harpreet Singh Bhatia was the only Chhattisgarh batsman to score 98 runs. Chhattisgarh won the toss and elected to bat However, Chhattisgarh lost Hervadkar (0) on the first ball. Sanjeet Desai (32) held on to the captain for a while. But Nitish gave a break through to Kerala. Desai was stumped by Sanju and sent off. It was Sizomon’s turn. The midfield completely surrendered to Sijomon.
Amandeep Khare (0), Shashank Singh (14), Lavin Lancoster (0) and Ajay Mandal (0) had no answer in front of Sijomon’s balls. Harpreet was later dismissed for five wickets. He also shone with the bat in the last match. Sumit Rooker (10), Veer Pratap Singh (13) and Ravi Kiran (8) also succumbed to their injuries. Saurabh Majumdar (9) was not out. Apart from Sijomon, Basil Thampi and Nitish took two wickets each. Vinoop has one wicket.
Kerala and Chhattisgarh have eight points from three matches. Kerala is above Chhattisgarh in terms of net run rate. Madhya Pradesh tops the list with eight points. The run rate is good for them.
