WHITE CITY Serbia can only forget the “aggression” waged by NATO leader United States of America (USA), in 1999, when their country ceased to exist. This was said by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, in commemoration of the 24th anniversary of the military bloc’s bombing campaign in Yugoslavia at that time.

Vucic added that the US and its allies have yet to respond to their attack, which was carried out in violation of international law. His speech came at a time when Belgrade is being pressured by Western countries over its relationship with Russia.

Speaking at a ceremony in the northern town of Sombor to commemorate the victims of the deadly airstrike that claimed the lives of thousands of Serbs, Vucic said that NATO’s aggression marked the moment when modern international law finally died.

“24 years have passed. You tore off part of our territory. You killed 79 children, 2,500 people and not only civilians, but also soldiers and police,” stressed the Serbian president.

“Who are you to kill our soldiers and police who are in their territory and in their country? Where did you get the right to kill our soldiers and police? Who gave you that right?” asked Vucic rhetorically as quoted from RTSaturday (25/3/2023).

Vucic recalled that the US-led military bloc attacked a free and sovereign nation while justifying its actions by saying it had to stop the “genocide”.

Just a reminder that at that time Belgrade was involved in a civil war with ethnic Albanian separatists in, following other conflicts after the dissolution of Yugoslavia in Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia.

He also recalled that NATO failed to get permission from the UN Security Council to initiate a military intervention, but went ahead anyway.
