As is well known, the minimum age to be qualified to drive in Brazil is 18 years old, the age group that represents the majority in the country. In this line, many still question whether the Brazilian legislation determines that the citizen can no longer drive, also considering an age criterion.
Going straight to the point, there is nothing in the law that establishes a maximum age for having a valid CNH. That is, the driver can be duly qualified, regardless of his age group. In fact, what will be at stake are the physical, cognitive and mental conditions to properly drive a motor vehicle, thus ensuring traffic safety.
Doubt arises, therefore, it is natural that with advancing age, certain mental and physical wear and tear appear. Throughout life, it is common for many body functions to begin to fail, characteristic of the aging process.
Still, the lifetime will not be a determining factor in granting or maintaining the right to drive. After all, it is extremely common for us to see people considered elderly, driving cars, motorcycles, trucks, buses, among other vehicles of this nature. It is important to understand that aging is not synonymous with disability, as many remain “active” until the end of their lives.
Driver’s license validity
As seen, there is no age limit for having a CNH, however, age will be a criterion taken into account in defining the validity of the license. According to the new rules established in the last one, the renewal of the driver’s license is mandatory within the following deadlines:
- drivers with up to 49 years: Driver’s license valid for 10 years;
- Drivers aged between 50 and 69 years old: Driver’s license valid for 5 years;
- Drivers aged 70 years onwards: Driver’s license valid for 3 years.
Stay tuned for CNH renewal deadlines!
