Fired in the USA for showing the David, Florence rewards her

by time news

The American teacher Hope Carrasquilla, principal of the Classical School of Tallahassee, in Florida, will receive an award from the Municipality of Florence, forced to resign after a lesson on the Renaissance during which he was shown Michelangelo’s David, considered ‘pornographic’ by the pupils’ parents. This was announced by Mayor Dario Nardella during a video link from New York.

Nardella has also announced that he would like to invite the fired principal to Florence to take her to personally admire the statue of David kept in the Galleria dell’Accademia.

Then Nardella wrote on Facebook: “A Florida teacher was forced to quit for showing students photos of Michelangelo’s David. Mistaking art for pornography is just ridiculous. You will personally invite the teacher to Florence to give you recognition on behalf of the city. Art is civilization and whoever teaches it deserves respect”.
