Mettupalayam: “Through the Athikadavu-Avinasi project, 24 thousand 500 acres in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts will get irrigation facilities,” said project director Sivalingam.

A ‘water festival’ was held at Dayanur next to Coimbatore Karamada. Athikadavu-Avinasi Project Director Sivalingam said:

Athikadavu — 1.065 km of pipelines have been laid to carry water to Avinasi project. At five locations, tunnels are constructed across railway tracks and at 10 locations across national highways, with pipelines laid in them.

Of this, 800 km of ductile iron pipes and 265 km of hard plastic pipes are installed. There is no chance of the pipe bursting due to water pressure. Valves have been installed at 1,295 places to open water to ponds and ponds.

Through this, 1,045 ponds and ponds in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts will be filled with water. This includes 37 public works ponds, 47 panchayat ponds, 971 village ponds. At six places, automatic water pumping stations have been set up.

In a year, only 70 days will be pumped by this scheme. A total of 1.5 TMC of water will be pumped at the rate of 250 cubic feet per day and filled to ponds and ponds. Due to this, the ground water level will rise in the three districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode, and irrigation facility will be available to 24 thousand 500 acres through wells and borewells.

Project work is 90 percent complete. On February 20, the project work started. Water flow is going on in every part.
