Miguel Angel del Riolawyer of Aida Merlano, denounced that her client was the victim of a beating in the El Buen Pastor prison in Bogotá, where she is being held. This version contradicts the initial report, in which it was indicated that the altercation occurred because the former congresswoman “bite” a guard.

“What happened last Friday in the Buen Pastor prison it was actually a beating against Aida Merlano. On the other hand, the director of the prison was never informed of any attack against any guard. Their aggressors will be denounced.”said del Río on his Twitter account.

On the afternoon of March 24, a version circulated that pointed to Merlano as responsible of hitting an Inpec guard. Initially, it was said that the former senator refused to hand over a cell phone that was found in her cell during a routine procedure.

“Tries to take it out of his hands and tries to bite (the guardian) on the right forearm to make her drop (the cell phone)”, says the report that was sent by Claudia Bibiana Mariño, director of the prison, to Nancy Pérez González, central regional director of Inpec.

The lieutenant, Yeimy Casallas Bernal, has already filed a legal action against Merlano for the assault of which, she assured, she was a victim.

Contrary to the official story, the lawyer del Río pointed out that Merlano suffered various injuries and was diagnosed with “Multiple blunt force trauma and grade one right ankle sprain”.

According to the lawyer, the prison director omitted information and did not immediately report what happened in pavilion 9 of the El Buen Pastor prison on Friday afternoon.

The former conservative congresswoman, convicted of electoral corruption, reached the El Buen Pastor prison after being deported from Venezuela, where she escaped after her escape in 2019.
